چکیده

A question arising out of the late 80’s about computation systems was could machines be intelligent without emotions ([Minsky 1988]). It seems that the machines of today are not only inhuman but also behave stupidly. Studies by psychologists have shown that humans who lack the emotional features usually used by many aspects of human reasoning do not behave intelligently [Damasio 1994]. This theory of requiring emotional synthesis when reasoning is well illustrated by Picard reported in affective computing [Picard 1997]. Picard provides further evidence of the emotional state of mind as an attribute to intelligent behaviour and outlines that the limitations of Artificial Intelligence in the 80’s may be partly contributed to the lack of applying emotional context to logical reasoning models. A number of collective case studies by Hersham and Lieb have illustrated that the work of genius is often surrounded by high emotional states during the development of outstanding work [Hersham & Leib 1987].

Evaluating Recall and Reflection Journals Written by Pre-Service Teachers in EFL Practicum Courses

In view of the fact that pre-service teachers’ critical reflection through evaluating teaching activity of their peers is an important part of practicum activity, the current study aimed to analyze the recall and reflection journals written by pre-service teachers to identify and evaluate the discoursal features of their journals. To this end, a total of 272 recall and reflection journals writ...

Using Implicit/Explicit Salvation Models to Theoretical Study Tautomerism in 7H-purine-2, 6-diamine

A theoretical study at the B3LYP/6-31++G(d,p) level was performed on the tatumerization of 7H-purine-2, 6-diamine into 9H-purine-2, 6-diamine. Such a tautomerism can take place via three different pathways namely A, B, and C. The energetic results associated with the gas phase reveal that pathways A, B, and C display a very high activation Gibbs free energy of 45.1, 68.6 and 48.9 kcal/mol, resp...

How to Evaluate Models of User Affect?

Modeling user affect is becoming increasingly important for intelligent interfaces and agents that aim to establish believable interactions with their users. However, evaluating the accuracy and effectiveness of affective user models is extremely challenging because of the many unknowns in affect comprehension. In this paper, we overview existing approaches related to the validation of affectiv...

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Form-Focused Instruction on Explicit and Implicit Knowledge of EFL Learners

Although explicit and implicit knowledge of language learners are essential to theoretical and pedagogical debates in second language acquisition (SLA), little research has addressed the effects of instructional interventions on the two knowledge types (R. Ellis, 2005).This study examined the relative effectiveness of explicit and implicit types of form-focused instruction (FFI) on the acquisit...

Seeing the forest through the trees: a comparison of different IAT variants measuring implicit alcohol associations.

Dual-process models propose that addictive behaviors are determined by an implicit, impulsive system and an explicit, reflective system. Consistent with these models, research has demonstrated implicit affective associations with alcohol, using the Implicit Association Test (IAT), that predict unique variance in drinking behavior above explicit cognitions. However, different IAT versions have b...
